Bauxite Betty meet Bauxite Beverely

Posted by on March 17, 2012 with 0 Comments

After a year of owning a 1985 14 ft Klamath with tiller steer 25 hp Merc 2 stroke I decided I  really liked the versatilty of a tin can. Bauxite Betty High Sierra lakes, foothill lakes, delta and rivers I got a lot of use out of it. Fuel frugal, easy to tow and launch. So as men are wont to do I began to look at newer prettier models with unabated lust. After 2 weeks of solid Craigslist pounding I had a buyer for the old boat and a seller with a 2008 Klamath 15 ft deluxe with side console (no… Read more

Old Melones

Posted by on March 5, 2012 with 0 Comments

I may hang up Melones for the season. Two trips in a week with looooots of hours on the job for few fish. Not complaining mind you. I love that lake.  Jerry “Spawn Stalker” and yours truly  left the easy bay at 6 and were handing our money to Melanie and listening to her lies  at 8. She said the bank on both sides outside of the dam cove right up tight was ez pickins up top. We spent 4 hrs at or near the dam for ZIPPO before we finally sobered up enough to make a safe run…. I was wrapping up a  pitched and protracted battle with a persistent and migratory bug. I fought it with science and magic as it moved from one organ to the other. After a week on my back I needed outside. Up at 5:00 AM Sunday without a clue as to what to do but  be vertical. Opened one garage and eyed the yaks. Opened the other and spied the tincan newly renovated with d-riggers and other goodies. Checked Melanies’s Glory Hole report touting fish up along shore spawning in coves at New… Read more

Halibut Fever!?I got it!Well the transition back to work has gone ok. I’m back on my normal work schedule.? WEEKENDS are out for the time being. WENDSDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY ARE THE ONLY DAYS I FISH. ?Sorry! ? ?I’m predicting an early halibut season this year. With the lack of rain and lots of clean San Francisco bay water, the chances are great that we may be successful before mid-March. ?The herring spawn was good the shrimpers are catching the occasional halibut in San Pablo Bay and… Read more

My Hip has healed fine. Now I’m nursing a prostate problem, I hope, goes away soon. I have been on disability for 2-1/2 months. Right now I’m ?getting back to the job that pays the bills at Genentech.? So stressful!?
