I can’t stop thinking about going fishing. I started working full time at a winery in Napa, CA just over three weeks ago. Needless to say, I haven’t been able to swing by the lake as much as I would like to… The winery I work at is situated just above Lake Hennessey, so I’ve been keeping 3-4 rods in the truck (more then I need) in true bass angler fashion. Short trips after work have been satisfying some of my hunger to get out on the water, but I’m going crazy for… Read more

Gus is pointing at his 2 fish as the others look . This has been an incredible summer.? The weather was challenging and the fishing was GOOD. We spent all of the summer outside on the North Bar AKA Potato Patch and the South Bar AKA Seal Rocks and further out to 3 mile line.? Fishing was good enough to keep the business rolling. Consistent scores of 5-15 halibut were common and the price for the halibut was equally satisfying.? 18 pounds of reel man meat? ? Commercial fishing for halibut has… Read more

Inserto and friends 8/10/11 halibut from the South Bar ? Sometimes I get the feeling that I’m superman and all I have to do is get my lines in the water and the fish are going to fly in the boat. ?? This weekend was one of those humbling situations. It wasn’t so bad. We managed to get the fish we needed to make some happy. The market wasn’t to happy because we caught mostly small halibut. 22 inches to 26” , fishing on the North Bar in real sloppy water. . We caught 8 halibut. for… Read more

In June, I graduated from the University of Oregon, where I spent four years of my life learning, meeting new people, and of course, having a blast fishing tournaments and hanging out with the guys on the Oregon Bass Team. Just recently I moved down to Napa, California, forty-five minutes north of where I grew up in Marin county. In the last week I’ve been on a fishing frenzy, after a short hiatus consisting of figuring out my life and moving from another state. On Tuesday I went on a… Read more

Up the coast again! ? Kerin from the Miratage resort in Napa? ?brought a few new friends.? Kerin stated last trip he wanted to get out in the ocean. He wanted some Ling cod or maybe a salmon. ? The weather report wasn’t that good. But Kerin is the guy that says, “so what” every time. His flat out dumb luck or good Karma has proven right every time. The weather regardless of the report was good enough to run up the coast for 16 miles at 17 knots and put the hurt on the lings.? ? We had one… Read more

Last week was incredible. I absolutely love being able to take advantage of different kinds of fishing when the opportunity presents itself. ? The hook in my business is halibut or sturgeon fishing. ?We like it and it’s attractive to my new customers. Once you get them going on a regular basis you want to see them enjoy more of what our fishery has to offer. The only thing is they have to be willing to try something different.? ? Our change of pace this weekend was Ling cod fishing.? Most… Read more

? Meratage? Stripers 6/28/2011? ?The halibut bite slowed this week but the stripers went wide open. The day after the storm we had a trip with the guys from the Meratage in Napa. They had the best action in the morning.? We had 4 stripers on at a time 3 times and multiple triples and doubles. It was fun and the adrenalin was pumping for the crew as well as our guests. ? The morning was spent in the south bay just East of A buoy.? There’s large sand bar or hump and that’s what I keyed in on… Read more
