The New Year 2012 ( CHANGES )

Sunday January 22nd, 2012My Hip has healed fine. Now I'm nursing a prostate problem, I hope, goes away soon. I have been on disability for 2-1/2 months. Right now I'm ?getting back to the job that pays the bills at Genentech.? So stressful!? Anyhow , The sturgeon fishing should only get better with the rain this week.??To be quite honest, I'm kind of tired of sturgeon . We caught allot this fall and winter. If you have eaten all of your sturgeon and need another, I'll get you out there for another go round. ? My major... Read more

Fishing Berry Deep, Lake Berryessa!

Wednesday January 11th, 2012Since moving down to Napa, Lake Berryessa has become adopted as my new home waters. I can get to the ramp in just over thirty minutes, launching is free, and there’s healthy populations of largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass. So whether its an impulsive last minute fishing trip or a planned one, I end up there a lot. On Friday I headed out to Berryessa on an impulse, and to figure out how the fish are responding to this wacky abnormally sunny winter weather, with water temperatures... Read more

Winter Cleaning

Thursday January 5th, 2012Annual maintenance of one’s reels is often overlooked by many anglers, for one reason or another. Some are intimidated by figuring out where to start and what to use. Others have messed up their reels too many times or simply don’t want to take the time. Whatever your reasons, take a deep breath, turn on some tunes and open up your reels, because come spring time you’re not going to want to deal with that coffe grinding sound and malfunctioning drag. There are only a handfull... Read more

A Day Off!

Wednesday December 14th, 2011I’ve been having the itch to hit the water real bad lately. You know what I’m talking about. When all you can think about is hooking into a fish and forgetting everything else but trying to get it in the boat. Fortunately, my boss let me know we would be taking the day off today, and I instantly started getting the boat ready. I decided to head up to Lake Hennessy, just north of Napa, between St. Helena and Lake Berryessa. The lake has a 10hp and under limitation, so I would be... Read more

Wishing I was Fishing

Tuesday October 11th, 2011I can’t stop thinking about going fishing. I started working full time at a winery in Napa, CA just over three weeks ago. Needless to say, I haven’t been able to swing by the lake as much as I would like to… The winery I work at is situated just above Lake Hennessey, so I’ve been keeping 3-4 rods in the truck (more then I need) in true bass angler fashion. Short trips after work have been satisfying some of my hunger to get out on the water, but I’m going crazy for... Read more

Halibut, Striper, salmon, Guitar Fish and Hip Surgery:

Saturday September 24th, 2011Gus is pointing at his 2 fish as the others look . This has been an incredible summer.? The weather was challenging and the fishing was GOOD. We spent all of the summer outside on the North Bar AKA Potato Patch and the South Bar AKA Seal Rocks and further out to 3 mile line.? Fishing was good enough to keep the business rolling. Consistent scores of 5-15 halibut were common and the price for the halibut was equally satisfying.? 18 pounds of reel man meat? ? Commercial fishing for halibut has... Read more

SALMON HALIBUT AND A THRESHER SHARK 08/18-19/2011

Sunday August 21st, 2011Well I had a chance to get some rest this week. Wednesday was my day to relax. After a dropping josh off to get his wisdom teeth pulled, I was free to work on the boat and get ready for a commercial day and a salmon fishing trip with Moklumne river hatchery guys.Thursday was an awesome day; I had a guy who has been bugging me to fish commercially for close to 3 months.? His name is Sean a 30 something with a need to be a commercial fisherman.? He’s a financial advisor in the city but had... Read more

From Oregon back down to California

Saturday August 13th, 2011In June, I graduated from the University of Oregon, where I spent four years of my life learning, meeting new people, and of course, having a blast fishing tournaments and hanging out with the guys on the Oregon Bass Team. Just recently I moved down to Napa, California, forty-five minutes north of where I grew up in Marin county. In the last week I’ve been on a fishing frenzy, after a short hiatus consisting of figuring out my life and moving from another state. On Tuesday I went on a... Read more

Hard Headed I Guess:

Saturday August 13th, 2011Inserto and friends 8/10/11 halibut from the South Bar ? Sometimes I get the feeling that I’m superman and all I have to do is get my lines in the water and the fish are going to fly in the boat. ?? This weekend was one of those humbling situations. It wasn’t so bad. We managed to get the fish we needed to make some happy. The market wasn’t to happy because we caught mostly small halibut. 22 inches to 26” , fishing on the North Bar in real sloppy water. . We caught 8 halibut. for app.... Read more

Have to put your time in!

Sunday July 31st, 2011Loren’s girlfriend had a birthday the other day, while at the party; Loren said he wanted to go fishing. Duffy was volunteered by his wife to babysit Loren and bring lunch. ? We took off at 7am looking for halibut. We found some at Point Blunt. We hooked and landed seven nice halibut and a few stripers. ? It was a long day but we managed to get a few fish and pop a few cherries. ?Justin went along for this trip and did pretty good. He was tired because of the Dramamine the night before. I was... The present is no doubt the offspring of the past.

Saturday July 23rd, 2011? I wish I could share the amount of satisfaction I get out of getting people out on an adventure that satisfies the soul and rewards the labors of our effort. ? This last set of trips started on Wednesday July 20th, 2011G&G plumbing put together a trip With Mike Arzadon and Francisco Morales. ? Our intention was to get these guys on some halibut but the halibut didn’t want to cooperate. The striped bass did though. We fished Angel Island for 4 bass then to Alcatraz for 1 and a 23 inch... Saturday July 16th, 2011Up the coast again! ? Kerin from the Miratage resort in Napa? ?brought a few new friends.? Kerin stated last trip he wanted to get out in the ocean. He wanted some Ling cod or maybe a salmon. ? The weather report wasn’t that good. But Kerin is the guy that says, “so what” every time. His flat out dumb luck or good Karma has proven right every time. The weather regardless of the report was good enough to run up the coast for 16 miles at 17 knots and put the hurt on the lings.? ? We had one... Read more
